Veterans’ Boxes and Appreciation

Several ladies of the Frederick Van Patten Chapter met today to deliver boxes of appreciation and cheer to the local Veteran’s clinic. These boxes are just a small token of appreciation to the veterans for their service.

The Chapter would like to say a special thank you to the employees of the Harding University Brackett Library and other members of the community who helped by donating items and giftboxes to this cause.

November Activities

November has been a busy month for the ladies of the Frederick Van Patten Chapter, NSDAR. Several Arkansas daughters, including our own Rebecca and Mary Kay, spent of couple of days in Washington D.C., touring the freshly restored Constitution Hall, among the other areas of the N.S.D.A.R. building. Another activity that the Frederick Van Patten Chapter partook in was the laying of a wreath of poppies on the Vietnam Memorial at the Courthouse Square. The daughters also partook in a community project of stuffing and wrapping Christmas boxes that are to be donated to the local VA hospitals. The Frederick Van Patten Chapter is blessed to has so many daughters who strive to be active within the chapter and community. The Frederick Van Patten Chapter would also like to give a special thanks to the staff of the Harding University Brackett Library for their assistance in putting together several Christmas boxes for the veterans. Their enthusiasm and efforts are greatly appreciated!

May Recap

The Frederick Van Patten Chapter took a day to recognize two of their members during a Sunday tea this month. Dr. Cathleen Shultz and Honorable Annabelle Tuck were awarded the Women in American History for all the work they have done in their respective fields. Listening to their dedication and achievements they have done left everyone with a sense of awe and gratitude. These two women were humble about their achievements but are considered by many to be trailblazers, creating pathways and opening doors for others to follow. The Frederick Van Patten Chapter is honored to be able to present these awards to these outstanding ladies, who are also members of said chapter!

The Frederick Van Patten chapter was also excited to their first first hybrid meeting of the year. Regent Fran Haverstick presented Dr. Elizabeth Wilson with a NSDAR community service award for all of her work and dedication to domestic violence. Regent Haverstick later gave in enlightening program on Madonnas of the Trail, tributes made the pioneer women and mothers as they traveled west. Regent Haverstick traveled to a couple of these in person and was able to give the other members tips for if they ever travel to the Madonnas of the Trail.

Lastly, Regent Haverstick presented scholarships from the Frederick Van Patten Chapter to two graduating seniors. The Chapter is thrilled to be able to help these young ladies pursue a degree and are thankful to the members who donated to the Scholarship fund to make these scholarships possible.

Afterwards, the chapter continued with the business portion of the meeting. It was voted that the May meeting will be a hybrid meeting, both in-person and virtual.

Water Conservation

On March 13, the Frederick Van Patten Chapter convened an online meeting. The meeting began with Mr. Daniel Dawson on water facts and conservation tips. Mr. Dawson has been employed with Searcy Water Utilities for over 37 years, and is also a master naturalist-an individual who focuses on growth of plants native to a specific region. Mr. Dawson gave some wonderful suggestions on conservation tips in the bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, water leaks, water heater, lawn/garden, and emergency shutoff. Some of these suggestions included placing a filled bottle in the tank of the toilet to reduce water usage (more appropriate for older tanks), checking the supply hose to your washer, mulch garden beds to help maintain moisture, “plug” your yard (aerating clay soil helps get water to the roots, decreasing water usage), and knowing where your shut-off valve to the house is.

Further information and brochures can be requested at d.dawson@searcywater.org

After an informative presentation, the Frederick Van Patten chapter continued to the business section of the meeting. The chapter looks to meet again in April.
