May Recap

The Frederick Van Patten Chapter held its final meeting before summer break this May. The chapter was regaled with the biography of a soldier who survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor and Vietnam. His cousins, Claudia Higginbotham and Chapter Regent Fran Haverstick, shared his recollection and photos of his life with the chapter.

After the business portion, the new officers for the next administration were sworn in, and a memorial service was held for a recently deceased member, Joyce Hopper.

A recap of the previous chapter activities included participation in the Harding University History Faire, sponsored by the Harding University Phi Alpha Theta chapter, participating in the Wreaths Across America Mobile Exhibit with the Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR of Beebe in April, a cemetery walk in the Hickory Plains, and the presentation of the scholarship awards to winners of the local schools. Chapter Regent Haverstick held a dedication to mark the tombstone of a charter member to the Frederick Van Patten Chapter.

April Meeting

On April 9, the Frederick Van Patten Chapter met in person for the monthly meeting. After the business portion of the meeting, the chapter was delighted by a speech given by Mattie Grace Watson. Ms. Watson spoke about the American Constitution and the duties and responsibilities it bestows to the citizens. Ms. Grace won the American Legion competition with said presentation and will be representing Arkansas on a national level. The Frederick Van Patten Chapter wishes her the best of luck!
